Kapalua Golf Courses

Kapalua is found in West Maui where the winds blow the majority of the time. If you enjoy a challenge and of course do not mind 30 to 40 miles per hour wind you will enjoy playing in Kapalua as long as you keep your ball low. Playing golf at any of the courses in Kapalua can be considered an extreme sport since you are fighting the wind. Even holding onto your score card might be tricky.


In Kapalua, you will find three golf courses which include the Kapalua Plantation Course, Kapalua Village golf course, Kapalua Bay golf course, and this is the home to Kapalua Golf Academy. If you are serious about golfing, are daring, and ready to beat the odds then the course for you is Kapalua Plantation Course. Many championship golfers have failed miserably on this course. This course is certainly not for the timid or amateur golfer. Hole 3 is the first hole, that will show you who is in charge on this course. If you do not keep your ball low the wind will surely toss it right back at you. Mother Nature is your opponent and she is going to give you all she’s got! On Hole 4, the wind is forced right at you face as you try to drive your ball uphill and blind. Hole 5 is tricky as well; once again you will have to deal with a head /cross wind and a deep ravine on your right. Hole 6 has hills that are ready to take your ball on a trip all the way down the hill away from the green to never- never land. Hole 8 has a very nice gorge you have to cross and if you do make it across there are bunkers placed strategically around the green to rile your temper. Hole 10 is another blind, uphill into the wind one. Watch out for the bunker that waits close by the green on this one. All in all this is a treacherous course with 663 yards that is sure to let you know if you have what it takes to succeed. The rates for Kapalua Plantation Course are between $ 90 and $ 225.


Kapalua Village is one of the less windy courses in Kapalua only since there are trees to block the wind. You will of course, hear the wind trying to break through as it whistles through the trees. Be prepared for a climb as you start out on the course, from Hole 3 until you reach Hole 5 you will climb 800 feet. This is one reason carts are mandatory! This is one of the most beautiful courses in Kapalua each hole offers a new and exciting view from rolling hills to Cook Island. Along the course you will notice rain sheds. Yes, this course does enjoying passing rain showers and one thing to remember is that the golf course does not give refunds due to the weather. If you are here in the winter months you may have to play through in the rain. The rates are between $ 80 and $ 190.


The last course is Kapalua Bay is considered the easiest to play and is set close to the ocean. Here you will enjoy playing through different golf communities and will be happy to realize the course does not have many sand traps. Hole 4 takes you to the ocean and Hole 5 must be shot over the ocean, a bit tricky with the wind. Hole 9 is shot over a hill toward the ocean. Hole 16 cannot be compared to another hole anywhere. It is one of the most unique holes ever created. Here you must dodge a pond that bisects it and a creek that is of course running straight down the middle. Remember, the wind is a major factor on this hole as well; play it wrong and your ball will take a dive. Rates on this course vary.
