The Kauai Marathon

Kauai Offers an Exciting New Marathon

Lace up your running shoes and head over to the Garden Isle for the Kaua'i Marathon.  The inaugural race held in 2009 was a smashing success.  The plans for 2010 are even bigger and better.

For 2010, the Kauai Marathon has partnered with the Sheraton Kaua'i Resort and Grand Hyatt to offer marathon participants reduced room rates and access to all pre-race activities.  Guests will be walking distance from the race expo, carbo load, start/finish, live music, and more.

The start for the 2010 Kaua'i Marathon will be September 5th at 6 am.  In 2009, the Kaua'i Marathon had 1,700 runners!  This year they will allow 3,000 runners but entry is limited and going quickly.

Runners can choose between a half or a full marathon.  The race starts off along the south shore at beautiful Po'ipu Beach.  It will then wind uphill through the famous tree tunnel (see photo) and then circle back to the starting location.

The course for both the half and full marathon are set up to be "walker friendly".  The only caveat is that all participants must pass mile 6.5 in one hour and forty-five minutes (which is a 16 minute pace) so that Maluhia Road can reopen to motor vehicle traffic.

All race entrants will receive a dri tech commemorative t-shirt and race medallion at the finish.  Photos will be taken after the finish and will then be available on line.
