A Guide to South Maui Golf Courses

Golf in South Maui is a real treat if you play early in the morning or if you do not mind windy conditions. There are championship golf courses here that you are sure to love if you in fact love the game of golf. The wind begins to pick up around 11 am or in some cases a bit later. There is sunshine however, the majority of the time and of course breath-taking scenery. You may have to contend with a passing shower but it is always just passing by and does not stay long enough to destroy your game.

Makena Resort has two golf courses to be proud which are sure to give you a challenge. The South course has slower greens and the hazards are more effectively put into practice. This course has a wonderful view of Kaho’olawe and Molokini and of course, the proximity of the ocean is a delight. Hole 3 is sure to be terrifying with eight bunkers protecting the green. Hole 4 is short and hole and hole 7 is a long 599 yard trip from the champ tees. Hole 13 has a water hazard that you have to shoot over while hole 15 is a majestic 180 yards toward the ocean.

The North Course is not considered the fun course, but good golfers love this course. The back nine are the favorites on this course with such holes as 13 from the blues to the fairway being a dream and hole 14 a downhill breeze. Hole 15 will get you if you are careful with its narrow fairway.

Rates at Makena Resort:
South $ 175
North $ 165
South Twilight $ 105
North Twilight $ 95

Wailea golf club has three exquisite golf courses, Gold, Emerald, and Blue. The courses at Wailea are some of the most beautiful golf courses in the world, which are well maintained and excellent to play. Emerald and Gold were created by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. while the Blue Course was the creation of Arthur Jack Snyder. When it comes to which course is the favorite, the answer hands down is the Emerald Course. This golf course was listed on the most “woman friendly” golf courses in the world. The entire experience is a real treat.

Wailea Gold course is a bit harder than Emerald even though it looks like a breeze when you realize there is only one small water hazard on the entire course, but you had better think twice. Each hole has their own tricky outcome with number 11 being a sandy hole if you are not careful.

The Blue Course is considered the most dull course, because of the majestic golf homes surrounding the course. However, do not believe the course is going to let you find par easily. It may be the oldest course, but it has some surprises for you as well. Hole 4 offers a 562 yard with a blind par 5. Some believe the course is as easy as pie; however, it is a fun course.

Rates at Wailea Golf Club
Gold $ 185 unless you are staying at the Waliea resort then the cost is $ 145
Emerald $ 185 unless you are staying at the Waliea resort then the cost is $ 145
