What you will see in Lahaina town

Lahaina Town is the hubbub of Maui if you are searching for a downtown area with much to do. A matter of fact, Lahaina is the only town on Maui that actually has a downtown area. Of course, since Lahaina is a happening place you are going to have to fight the crowds to enjoy the sites.

At one time, Lahaina was a whaling port thus many of the sights and activities are centered on boating. You must take a stroll down Front Street even if it is a bit crowded as it is a lifetime adventure. Lahaina may not be the best place for finding accommodations, taking quiet walks on the beach, or relaxing the day away. However, there is an attraction like no other.

Parking will be your main problem. You have to watch out for those that offer you parking for a fee. Of course, there is nothing wrong with paying to park, but you had better watch the time limit. They are very strict and if you are just a minutes past the limit be ready to pay a fine. You can find free parking on Front Street for up to three hours, which can give you plenty of time to shop, eat, or even enjoy a beautiful sunset. The majority of the time all of the free places are filled unless you arrive during the early morning hours. If you love shopping, then you can get a good free parking spot for four hours, so to speak at Lahaina Center, however, you must purchase something from the Center before you return to your car.

One of the most popular places to visit in Lahaina Town is the old courthouse. Here you can receive a brochure that gives you all the historical attractions that dot the area. For an unusual, yet magnificent sight is the Banyan Tree. The tree surrounds the entire park and is a great way to cool off and get out of the direct sun for an enjoyable rest. The oldest house on Maui is the Baldwin House and is a pleasant step back in time for visitors. Next on the list of sights to see in Lahaina Town is the Hale Pa’ahao translated to mean stuck in irons house. This is the old prison. The coral walls of this prison held prisoner during the 1850’s for such crimes as fast riding, bad language, fornication, adultery, not working on the road, vulgar conversation, giving birth to children unmarried, among others.

Here is where you can find the Sugar Cane Train ride. Everyone has their own opinion as to how enjoyable this slow moving train is traveling through old sugar fields. Children really love the train, which will give the adults a great way to relax for the ride while the children are having an adventure.

Nightlife in Lahaina Town is one of the best spots in West Maui. Most visitors love the dinner show that is provided at Warren and Annabelle’s. You will not only be amazed at the ghost of Annabelle while she entertains you with her piano playing but once you see Warren’s magic act you are sure to stay awake several nights trying to figure out he does the impossible. You must be 21 to enjoy the show and the price is $ 45 not including any of the treats or drinks you have prior to the magic show. You can find Warren and Annabelle’s on Front Street close by Papalaua.
