Kalaupapa Hike In and Out

Kaluapapa Hike in Maui, Hawaii

Experienced hikers can hike the 2.9 mile trail with 26 switchbacks at a 1600 foot descent. The guided hike is alongside the incredible sea cliffs with a fantastic view of the Maui coastlin, Cliffs, narrow valleys, a volcanic crater, rain forest, lava tubes and caves, and off-shore islands and waters are in the Kalaupapa National Park. Several of these areas provide rare native habitat for threatened or endangered Hawaiian plants and animals. For example, Hawaiian Monk seal pups have been born on Kalaupapa's beaches.

The park is within the Kalaupapa Leprosy Settlement, listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a national historic landmark. A section of the park is included within the North Shore Cliffs National Natural Landmark. This unique hiking experience includes continental breakfast, sack lunch and drink, shuttle to Kalae trailhead and inter-island yacht transportation. (Please note that due to time, this is not the full tour that the Hike/Fly participates in. Only parts of the settlement are visited).
